Hi, I wanted to comment on a few recent submissions to the newsletter regarding Libya.
Libya is an extraordinarily poor and mismanaged country. The most recent copy of The Index of Economic Freedom I have is from 2004. However, even the relatively dated data is very revealing. It states that only seven years ago, out of all of the countries in the world stable enough to be ranked, only one country - North Korea - was rated lower than Libya. In my opinion, living under al-Gaddafi's dictatorship would be like living with the ultimate dysfunctional parent. At any rate, a casual observation makes it obvious that al-Gaddafi and his family use his position to retain most of the oil wealth of the North African nation. I was disappointed to learn that in the very recent past, academics in the U.S. were willing to assist the Libyan regime with a P.R. campaign, which was typical of al-Gaddafi's attempt to convince the world that he was attempting economic and social reforms while clinging to neo-Marxist policies.
As far as the astrology of it all, I thought it would be beneficial to look at al-Gaddafi's birth chart for an insight into his mindset and behavior. Simply stated, he has a strongly Gemini personality (due to a five-planet stellium in Gemini) and as with everyone else on earth, the energies of the natal promise can be used in a productive way or unproductive way. Actually, he seems to be using the energies in a very productive way - for him. A lot of the trickster and manipulative talker, perhaps the worse side of Gemini, seems to show through strongly.
His Moon is most likely in Aries, although it could be in Pisces. The mutual reception of Mars in Cancer with Moon in Aries seems to fit his war monger image - especially via a civil war. Just about everything else in the chart, except Venus in its dominion in Taurus, disposits to his Mercury retrograde in Gemini. His extensive use of propoganda, apparently keen judgement of people, and undeniable utilization of a high level of some type of intelligence (evidenced by attaining and keeping a dictatorship for over forty years) is very consistent with an active Mercury retrograde in its dominion. Obviously the chart deserves further and more thorough study.
